About

Forgotten Sacrifices Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that no servicemember’s sacrifice is ever forgotten. We exist to honor and preserve the memory of those who lost their lives in training, domestic operations, or other in-the-line-of-duty incidents.

Our Story

Forgotten Sacrifices Project began with a simple question: Why do we so rarely hear the names of those who died serving their country outside of combat?

In 1971, a helicopter crash near Wall, South Dakota, claimed the lives of six service members during a training mission. For decades, their sacrifice went largely unrecognized. Their story, and those like it, inspired a movement to bring visibility, respect, and remembrance to the thousands of servicemembers who have given their lives while serving on American soil.

These individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. Their stories deserve to be remembered, their families deserve recognition, and their legacy should inspire generations to come.

Our Work

The Forgotten Sacrifices Project carries out its mission through four key pillars:

  1. Recognition & Memorials
Campaigning for official inclusion of overlooked servicemembers in state and national memorials and supporting communities as they create remembrance sites.

  2. Education & Storytelling
Preserving the stories, photos, and service records of those lost in training or domestic operations through our growing digital archive.

  3. Family & Community Support
Providing platforms for families to share their loved ones’ stories, connect with others, and find recognition and healing through remembrance.

  4. Policy & Advocacy
Partnering with veterans’ organizations and policymakers to ensure equitable recognition and benefits for all who have died in the line of duty.
